Asbestos Abatement & Removal in Calgary
Safe, contained asbestos removal for homes and buildings across Calgary and surrounding communities. We seal the work area, remove the asbestos, clean up, and hand you clearance from an independent hygienist, so your renovation or demolition can move forward.
Why Calgary homeowners and contractors choose Labbe
Asbestos was widely used in Calgary homes built before 1990, usually in drywall mud, textured ceilings, flooring or insulation. Finding it isn't the hard part. Getting it out safely, without spreading dust through the house or stalling your project, is.
- We plan around the paperwork. When asbestos is found, we file a Notice of Project with Alberta OHS, and removal can't start until 72 hours later. We build that wait into the schedule from the first visit, so it doesn't become downtime.
- Dust stays in the work area. We seal off the space, protect floors where needed, and run air scrubbers to keep the area under negative pressure. Air is pulled in and filtered, not pushed into the rest of your home.
- We leave it spotless. We leave every site noticeably cleaner than your usual demo crew. One client said you'd never know we were there. Cleanup isn't an afterthought; it's part of the job.
- Independent clearance. Testing and clearance air sampling are done by our independent Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), not by us. No conflict of interest.
- One company, start to finish. Testing, abatement, interior demolition and full house teardowns, all coordinated by one point of contact.
- Fully covered. WCB for every worker, $5M general liability and $5M pollution and environmental liability. Certificates are available on request.

How asbestos removal works
1. Site visit and testing
We look at the space, the age of the building and the work you have planned. If suspect materials haven't been tested, our independent hygienist collects samples and an accredited lab confirms what contains asbestos. Standard turnaround is about 72 hours, with rush available. Learn about asbestos testing.
2. Notice of Project and scheduling
If asbestos is found, we file a Notice of Project with Alberta OHS. Removal can start 72 hours later, and we schedule around that window so your project keeps moving.
3. Containment
We seal the work area off from the rest of the building, protect floors where needed, and set up air scrubbers to hold the area under negative pressure. For most home projects, we recommend you stay elsewhere while the work is underway.
4. Removal and disposal
Our trained crew removes the asbestos-containing materials in a controlled sequence, following Alberta OHS requirements. Waste is sealed, bagged and taken for proper disposal.
5. Cleanup and clearance
We clean the area thoroughly, then our independent hygienist runs clearance air testing to confirm the space is safe to reoccupy. You get the documentation you need for your contractor, insurer or City of Calgary demolition permit.
Abatement before demolition or renovation
In Calgary, a house can't come down until its asbestos has been dealt with: the City asks for the asbestos assessment and a clearance letter before it issues a demolition permit. We handle that step, then coordinate the teardown through our network of demolition companies. See excavator and house demolition.
Renovating instead? We can remove the asbestos and do the interior demolition in the same visit, under one quote. See interior demolition.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to leave my home during asbestos removal?
For most residential jobs, we recommend it. The work area is sealed and kept under negative pressure, but staying elsewhere until clearance testing is done is the safest choice for your family and pets.
How soon can you start?
If asbestos is confirmed, Alberta OHS requires a Notice of Project before removal, and work can begin 72 hours after it's filed. We plan around that from the first visit so it doesn't hold up your schedule.
Do I need testing before you quote?
Not always. We can quote from a site visit, but testing confirms exactly which materials contain asbestos. If you haven't tested yet, we arrange it through our independent hygienist. Standard lab turnaround is about 72 hours, with rush available.
Do you do your own testing?
No. All sampling and clearance air testing is done by an independent Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), so the person confirming the work isn't the one being paid to do it.
How do I know the area is safe afterward?
After cleanup, our hygienist runs clearance air testing. Once the results confirm the area is clear, you receive the documentation for your records, insurer, contractor or permit.
Are you insured for asbestos work?
Yes. We carry WCB coverage for all workers, $5 million general liability and $5 million pollution and environmental liability. Certificates of insurance and WCB clearance letters are available on request.
